Merlin 230t and 430r remote control programming.

How you program your remotes for the 230t or 430r door openers will depend on the type of remote handset that is compatible with your opener. The 230t and 430r openers have been around for a very long time and the technology used for the remote system has been updated throughout the years.

  1. Locate the dip switches on your opener.
  2. Remove the front cover on your remote handset.
  3. Copy the dip switch position from the opener to the handset.
  4. Test your remote control.

Early Merlin motors used a dip switch type remote to pair up the door opener to the users handheld remote controls. Openers that use the dip switch to code the handsets are recognisable by the square red button that is located in the bottom left corner of the roller door opener or at the back of the sectional door opener.

On the overhead sectional opener the cover for the dip switches is located on the back of the opener. For the roller door opener the dip switch cover is located under the opener.

  1. Locate the learn button under the rectangular black plastic port cover.
  2. Hold the learn button for 3 seconds then release.
  3. Press and release the remote handset button twice.

For a small period of time Merlin updated the remote handsets but only did a partial upgrade to the main circuit board inside the opener. This has caused some confusion for people trying to find the learn button on their openers.

If your opener uses the black and green handsets with the round buttons, but you can’t find the learn button, then you need to look for the learn button where the dip switches were previously located on your opener.
