Garage Door Openers

A garage door opener is a motorised product that drives a garage door up and down when instructed by your remote control.

There are two standard types of opener:

  1. Roller door openers. The roller door opener is a popular option in Australia. Roller door openers are compact products that fit directly into the end of the roller door and take up little space.
  2. Section door openers. The sectional door opener incorporates an opener head and a track that runs from the opener to the front wall of the garage. In the track is a trolley that connects the opener to the door.

Both types of opener are controlled via a remote control handset (clicker) or a wall button.

Standard features on all garage door openers:

Courtesy light. All openers are fitted with a courtesy light that comes on whenever the door is activated. Lights are set to turn off at a time that is set by the opener. Some openers let you adjust the time delay.

Obstruction sensing All garage door openers have this feature built into the opener. If the opener sensors that the door is encountering undue resistance the opener will stop and auto reverse.

Automatic Locking When your garage door opener is stationary then the door is locked to that position.

Secure coding Today’s openers use secure communication technology to protect your opener from being operated by criminals.

Manual Release All garage door openers have a manual override that can be used in the event of a power failure.

Optional extras:

Integrate with alarms, if your house alarm has a remote control you can often set up one of the buttons on that remote to operate the door opener. One of the benefits is that you can disarm the garage from the alarm while keeping the rest of the house alarmed.

WIFI App Many brands of openers include the ability to operate your door via your mobile phone. For this to work you will have to have an existing wifi modem, a wifi module for the opener and the APP on your mobile phone.

Battery backup, This can be a great option if you have a physical condition that would make it too challenging to open your door during a power outage. Or, if your garage door is the only access point to your garage. This option is only available on some models of openers.

Auto closing, Did you know that most garage door openers give you the ability to automatically close the door after a set time. But it does come with a down side. If you need to keep your door open you need to switch off the opener.

Keypads, If you have people that only need occasional access to your garage then you might not want them to have a remote handset. This is where a keypad will come in handy.
